Family Ski Trip
Planning a family ski trip can be a little overwhelming. So much to think of from clothing, where to stay, renting ski’s, snowboards, helmets, where to eat, etc.
Growing up we never went skiing my dad just never wanted to. It always seemed like such a cool sport & wanted to make it a tradition yearly with our family.
Our first trip as a family skiiing was to Breckinridge, Co. We went there two years in a row. Breck has a great family feel. Super chill and relaxed environment. My youngest Addison was under three so she wasn’t able to go to ski school. Honestly the best time to go is when all your children are above three so that they can go into ski school. Putting your kids in the school is great because it keeps them occupied, teaches them on their level, & this way you can get personal lessons for yourself. The kids normally go 9am-3pm, They feed them, do creative activities, teach them core ski skills.... kind a like they’re in school.
Then after two years of Breck we went to Beaver Creek, Colorado. The experience is like Disney for skiing. The town is so quaint! The hotels and restaurants are beautiful . The skiing is great there. Great for families!
We stayed at the Westin two years since we have SPG points. Great hotel! Clean, great food, live music at night in the looby. Overall a great family friendly chill environment!
Some of the places I would recommend staying in Beavercreek:
• Westin
• Hyatt
Great places to eat there:
• Blue moon pizza
• Italian restaurant
• Mexican restaurant
• Sleigh ride up to
This past year we went to Vail and stayed at the Vail Marriot. Vail is a much bigger mountain! It’s absolutely magestic! Lots of options for all levels of skiers & snow boarders. Lots of greens, blues, & blacks!
I would definitely stay there again. My family loved it!
My boys including husband snowboard. I recomment first getting your kids good on skis and then to snowboard. We made sure our boys had at least 3 good ski trips before Snowboarding. Once they decided to switch over we had a professional instructor for two days in a row teach them..... it can be pricey but it was worth it.
Me and Addison ski! Queen of the greens! However I will say this time we did a few blues.
Places I recommend to stay in Vail:
• Vail Marriott Mountain Resort
• The Arrabelle at Vail Square
Ski instructors (the best):
• J Scott Thomas (Does Vail & Beaver Creek)
• Caitlyn Krueger | @caitlyn_kruegeer__(Only does Vail)
Restaurants in Vail recommended:
• Blue Moose Pizza (NY-style pizza)
• El Segundo Vail (Mexican)
• Vail Chophouse (Great for steak)
• Sweet Basil (Modern American restaurant)
• Fuzziwig's Candy Factory (Kids heaven)
• Matsuhisa Vail (Great Sushi)
• Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail (Hot chocolate)
What to pack for skiing:
• We pack 2 ski outfits for each child but really you only need 1
• 2 chili sets (undergarments to stay warm)/thermals
• 2 pairs of warm socks
• Boots to walk around town
• Good gloves
